Laser marking uses a focused laser beam to alter the surface of a material for identification, branding or decorative purposes. It can use various techniques (including annealing, foaming and coloration) depending on the material and laser settings. Laser marking discolors the material without removing much (or any) material.
It’s different from laser engraving, where the laser physically removes material to create a deep, permanent mark, and laser etching, which creates a shallower version of engraving that slightly melts the surface.
Our
LasePen® systems can be used for marking, engraving, and etching. You can choose the best approach for your particular use.
